W杯

The only time I ever take interest in football is during the World Cup. After that, I really could not care less 😉 Of course being an international event, it is called differently in different languages. In Japanese, however, they use the same word as english: ワールドカップ (warudo kappu) – pronounced in a Japanese way of course ;). But we all know the Japanese like to shorten their words, and they’ve found quite a creative way for this one: W杯 (daburu hai). If you can recognise this kanji, you’ll know it’s actually the kanji for cup (usually a sake cup or other alcoholic beverage), and the W of course stands for “World”. Now, isn’t that a smart little short cut ^^

Enjoy the rest of the games! Allez les bleus!!
