五月病

It’s the end of Golden Week in Japan, and many have returned back to school or work. We all know that the Japanese tend to work very hard, always doing 残業 (zangyou) – overtime. Which is why it’s great that the whole country can be on holiday at the same time for a couple of days!

What happens when you have to go back though?! Well, apparently many get what is called 五月病 (go gatsu byou): the May blues. You’ll notice the word is consists of the kanjis for 五月 (go gatsu) meaning May, and 病 (byou) meaning sick or ill.

I wonder if there’s anything like 年病 though, because to be honest I never want to work. But perhaps that’s just me being lazy f^_^;
