Fashion in Japan is another subject that has also begun to peak my interest. I was first introduced to japanese fashion when I watched Kamikaze Girls, which featured the brand Baby, The Stars Shine Bright. The lolita style is one based on Victorian era clothing. Although I had sometimes seen lolita fashion in anime, I had no idea there was such a market for it amongst some young Tokyoites (and I am assuming other parts of Japan). And it’s only when I went to Hyper Japan earlier this year that I witnessed the vastness and diversity of this particular style.
At last year’s Hyper Japan I had the opportunity to see Kanon Wakeshima who represented ゴスロリgoth loli (a gothic lolita) very well.
Of course there is a lot more to Japanese fashion than just the lolita style, and I would love to learn more about it. One of my friends has begun writing a blog on both Japan and london fashion: WHitE HOLiC.
